Experts from GTK in collaboration with VTT conducted environmental fieldwork in August 24-28 at Sokli and nearby lakes and ponds in the frame of the GoldenRAM project. This entailed measuring water quality and collecting water samples.

The primary goal of the fieldwork was to compare the in-situ measurement results and laboratory analyses with optical satellite data captured simultaneously. This comparison aims to determine whether some parameters can be predicted using satellite imagery. The study also provides valuable baseline information for monitoring potential mining activities in the area.

In addition to the water quality measurements, VTT and GTK explored vegetated areas, including Soklin ahot, Valtasenvainio, and Pierkuli. Their objective was to evaluate the potential of remote sensing technologies for habitat mapping and characterisation.
